FPO in Thiruvannamalai |
Forming a self-sustaining farmer enterprise to improve the earnings of Small, Marginal and Tenant farmers.
SFAC is a Society promoted by Dept. of Agriculture, Govt. of India. SFAC partnered with ALC India to promote Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) of small, marginal and tenant farmers in dry land areas.
The objective was to form a self-sustained enterprise to increase the incomes of 4250 farmers.
FPOs offer a pathway to farmers, especially smallholders, to successfully deal with a range of challenges and overcome the constraints imposed by their small size. FPO members are able to leverage their collective strength to access credit and technology, reduce transaction costs, tap high value markets and enter into partnerships with private entities on more equitable terms. The aggregation opportunities offered by FPOs attract both wholesale agents and processors to enter into direct buying arrangements with producers and create competition and fair price discovery.
