Project Brief

Khammam is an area troubled by the extremist disturbances arising out of land settlements and disputes. It has been untouched by the development process, despite having immense potential in terms of resources. The approach to the study included desk review of Khammam with regard to various sectors and their sectoral mapping, stakeholder consultations for identification of growth engines of Khammam district and planning suitable interventions for the potential sectors or industries that have emerged out of the study.

Project Description

The project deliverable was a district development plan of Khammam. As a troubled area, Khammam district has been untouched by the development process, despite having an immense potential in terms of resources. The major constraint of the study was that most part of the study was based on secondary or desk research and few district level stakeholder consultations. One of the key findings of the study was that there were unexplored sectors with significant potential. The key aspect emerging from the study was that an inclusive growth was possible only with labour intensive industries which can absorb massive human resources and engage them in apt industries equitably. The five major sectors identified for growth were - agriculture & allied sector; manufacturing & service industry; microfinance; physical infrastructure and social infrastructure.
